The Consultant will conduct up to three capacity building training(s) on trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (TF-CBT) psychological assistance to families of those killed and international practices on work with veterans for the selected psychologists and supervisors who will be further providing support to the veterans and their family members. Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM), the direct supervision of the Emergency and Stabilization Coordinator, coordination with the Community Stabilization Project Specialist and Regional HAP Coordinator for Europe and Central Asia, the Consultant will support implementation of activities conducted under the project “Life after conflict: community-based reintegration support for veterans of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine and their families”, funded by the European Union.Ĭonsidering high demand of psychological support to be provided to the veterans of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, IOM Ukraine will contract locally 60 psychologists and 9 supervisors to conduct individual and group counselling in targeted communities. ![]() The World Bank highlights that 85 percent of veterans consider psychological counselling for themselves and their families necessary to enable return to normal lives. In relation to social and psychosocial integration, gaps in the provision of psychological care – specifically, trained psychologists and psychiatrists with the capacity to provide specialized counselling services – as well as the lack of awareness of mental health issues among veterans hinders psychological trauma during and/or as a result of the conflict being adequately addressed. IOM Ukraine contributes to the Government of Ukraine’s efforts to provide tailored support to veterans of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and their families for effective reintegration to civilian environments, and their active contribution to the social and economic well-being of their communities. According to a World Bank study in 2017, the majority of the veteran respondents (77%) did not serve in the military prior to the conflict and on return to their communities, 44% admitted to either not feeling integrated or that the question was difficult for them to answer.
